Why I Work in Childcare: I’m passionate about offering children the very best care in a family-run setting that’s personal, accessible, and not lost in a franchise. Just like my own children, I want every child to lead the way each and every day, keeping me on my toes and teaching me something new for many years to come. I also want to provide a positive workplace for like-minded practitioners, where mental health and personal and professional growth are paramount. Without the team, nothing is possible, the team is like family. My goal is to build confident, curious, kind, and resilient young people who carry both modern skills and timeless life lessons into their future.

Experience: 10 years working in the early years sector

Family: Within my family, I am a daughter, sister, auntie and godmother. My family are my biggest advocates and I am grateful for the part they each play in my life.

Hobbies: I find enjoyment in almost anything creative, particularly journaling and scrapbooking. I also enjoy reading and could spend hours immersed in a new story, especially if I’m lying on a beach or poolside in the sun!

Why I work in childcare: I am highly passionate about working in childcare, offering the opportunity to provide the best possible foundations to the early years of children.

Contributing to their cognitive, emotional, and social growth is both a privilege and a responsibility that I approach with dedication and care. I take pride in fostering environments that are not only safe and nurturing but also rich in opportunities for exploration, creativity, and risk-taking. Each interaction presents a chance to inspire curiosity, cultivate resilience, and support children in developing the confidence and competencies they will carry into later life. This passion extends to supporting the future generations of early years practitioners, empowering them to recognise their value within society and the pivotal role they play in shaping the lives of young children.

Kayla

Engagement & Compliance Officer

Family: Very proud dog owner and auntie.

Experience: Kayla joined the SPLAT team in 2023 as our Toddler Room Leader and quickly became a valued part of the team. Her excellent organisational skills and passion for communication led her to transition into her current role as Engagement and Compliance Officer, where she supports the leadership team. Kayla now oversees in-house Health & Safety on a daily basis, manages communications with prospective families, and leads our community marketing efforts.

Hobbies: Spending time with family and friends, exploring new places, and enjoying creative projects.

Why I Work in Childcare: Kayla loves being part of a nurturing and passionate team, helping families feel connected and confident while ensuring SPLAT continues to deliver the highest standards of care and safety.

Amilyon (Millie)

Company Secretary

Family: Gemma’s daughter, recently engaged, and proud owner of two cats.

Experience: Millie has grown up surrounded by childcare, watching her mum care for and nurture children from babies to teenagers, first as a childminder and later through after-school and holiday clubs. As a pupil herself, Millie and a few school friends loved the free-play approach of these clubs and went on to volunteer as part of our V-Inspired programme.

She later joined the company, studying for her Level 3 in Early Years alongside her A Levels. Millie then progressed to university, earning a degree in Entrepreneurship and Management, followed by a Master’s in Global Healthcare and Leadership at UCL,  all while running her own successful Aesthetics business and supporting SPLAT’s accounts.

With her business now reaching new heights, Millie has hung up her accounting hat and continues to support SPLAT at a strategic and quality auditing level, helping guide the company’s direction and growth.

Hobbies: Spending time with her fiancé and cats, travelling, and continuing her passion for entrepreneurship.

Why I Work in Childcare: Millie loves being part of the family legacy,  helping SPLAT grow while ensuring quality, innovation, and care remain at the heart of everything we do.

Lee

Forest Leader & H&S Manager

Family: Gemma’s dad and proud grandad to four wonderful grandchildren who mean the world to him.

Experience: Lee  is an original OG at SPLAT after a successful career as a heating engineer. Upon retiring, Lee wanted to spend more time with his family and release his inner boy scout, leading him to train as a Forest School Leader. Since then, he has taken our forest school to new heights, supporting our leaders, building an incredible array of resources, and (by his own count!) cleaning out the containers at least a hundred times.

In 2024, Lee underwent brain surgery and bravely stepped into a less physical role as our Health & Safety Manager. Now, with the all-clear, you’re sure to see Lee back out in the forest with Gemma, doing what he loves most.

Hobbies: Spending time with family, tinkering with tools, and enjoying the great outdoors.

Why I Work in Childcare: Lee loves inspiring children to explore, take risks, and discover the magic of nature, wood work,  fire  and den building all while keeping everyone safe and smiling.

Amy H

Baby Room Apprenticeship Practitioner

Experience: 2 years in childcare. I also spent some months volunteering. At one point , I was debating to go to university and I fell in love with childcare. However, I am looking to specialise in the childcare sector,  with a degree!

Education & Qualifications:

  • Level 3 health and social care
  • Level 3 early years apprentice

Family: I’m a daughter and a sister to two brothers

Hobbies: I like reading and taking my dog on walks

Why I Work in Childcare: I love working with the children and watching them progress into smart and lovely people, and seeing their smiles and giggles makes my day.

Preschool Room Leader

Experience: 10 years in Early Years

  • Masters degree in Child Psychology and Qualified Teaching Status
  • DSL trained

Hobbies: Outside of nursery life, I love to read and I am a crafty person; I enjoy painting and drawing. I love being outdoors and going on hiking trips with my friends!

Why I Work in Childcare: I love that we as adults can help foster curiosity in children, helping them explore and learn in a way that’s engaging and fun. I’m passionate about child led learning and creating a love for reading early in life. It’s incredibly rewarding to see preschoolers graduate to school as confident, independent, happy learners, ready to take on new challenges. Plus, each day brings a new adventure, where you can express your creativity and make learning exciting and meaningful in our children’s first steps in life!

Megan

Room Leader & PANCo - Toddler Room

Family: Two cats.

Experience: Megan has been part of the SPLAT family since 2020 and has flourished from the very first day. She began her journey in the baby room, completed her Level 3 in Early Years, and now leads our toddler room with dedication and pride. As PANCo, Megan works closely with the team and our chef to ensure the setting’s health and wellbeing standards are the best they can be.

Hobbies: Spending time with her two cats and enjoying fishing in her spare time.

Why I Work in Childcare: “I’ve always known this is what I want to do, and I’m committed to it every single day.” Megan’s passion and care shine through in all she does, making her a true asset to the team.

Freya

Baby Room Leader

Experience: 3 years of placement ages 0-8

9 months at Splat

Hobbies: Spending time with family and friends, long walks and reading

 

Why I work in childcare: I love working in childcare, and that love continues to grow every day! Building trusting relationships with both children and their families, and creating a safe and nurturing environment where children can grow and develop into their unique selves is something I am truly passionate about. I am so proud to be a part of that journey!

Kirsty

Practitioner - Preschool

Family: —

Experience: Kirsty joined the team in 2019 and has been a loyal and dedicated member ever since. Leading our preschool since 2024, she has grown from strength to strength, inspiring both children and colleagues with her commitment and care. Kirsty is now beginning an exciting new chapter, studying for her degree in Early Years while continuing with us part-time. We are so proud of her for taking this next big step!

Hobbies: Spending time with family and friends, and continuing to learn and grow within the early years field.

Why I Work in Childcare: Kirsty finds great joy in helping children prepare for their next adventures, nurturing independence and curiosity every step of the way to school readiness. 

Maddison

Practitioner - Toddlers

Family: Soon-to-be mum

Experience: Maddi joined the Splat team in 2024 and quickly proved to have a natural way with children. She successfully completed her apprenticeship with us and has been a valued member of the team ever since. Maddi is now on maternity leave, we will miss her dearly and wish her all the very best in her next chapter!

Hobbies: Spending time with her siblings and friends.

Why I Work in Childcare: I love supporting children as they learn and grow, creating warm and nurturing connections that make each day special.

Georgie

Preschool Practitioner

Family: Mum to a one-year-old

Experience: Georgie began her journey with us in our baby room, progressing to preschool before going on maternity leave. She has recently returned from maternity leave and is now working part-time in our Preschool. She brings wonderful energy, excitement, and warmth to the room, creating a fun and engaging environment for the children.

Hobbies: Spending time with her little one, family adventures, and enjoying the outdoors.

Why I Work in Childcare: “I was unsure if I would want to return to childcare after having my son, but when I visited the nursery, it reminded me just how great this place is. To have my son here too is such a blessing, and we are very lucky to have a space. This truly is a great place to work, and for my son to grow.”

Anjalina

Toddler Room Assistant Practitioner

Experience: Almost 1 year here at SPLAT, supporting our toddler room.

Apprentice Practitioner - Baby Room

Family: —

Experience: Meah is an apprentice practitioner studying towards her Level 2 in Early Years, a qualification she has excelled in thanks to her high standard of work and dedication. She works across all rooms, and her natural ability with children has been exceptional for someone at entry level in childcare.

Hobbies: Enjoying nights out with friends and learning more about how children grow and what they need to thrive.

Why I Work in Childcare: Meah brings passion, commitment, and enthusiasm to everything she does. She loves being part of children’s early learning journeys and seeing their personalities shine through each day.

Chloe

Assistant Practitioner - Preschool

Family: —

Experience: Chloe joined the SPLAT team in the summer of 2025 as an Assistant Practitioner in our Preschool. After many years working in office-based roles, her passion for working with children came to life during a casual chat at a makeup appointment, and the rest is history!

At weekends, Chloe runs her own beauty business, offering makeup and nails, and brings that same creativity and attention to detail into her work with the children. She is growing wonderfully in her role and is excited to continue learning and developing her skills in early years.

Hobbies: Running her beauty business, spending time with family and friends, and enjoying all things creative.

Why I Work in Childcare: Chloe loves supporting children as they grow in confidence, independence, and imagination, and feels she’s found 

Ellah

Assistant Practitioner - Toddlers

Family: —

Experience: Ellah joined the SPLAT team in late 2025 after deciding it was time for a change. She took a leap of faith to explore childcare, having always felt an innate passion for working with children, and she wasn’t wrong! Now supporting our toddlers’ team, Ellah brings absolute smiles and positivity to everything she does.

Hobbies: Spending time with friends and family, and enjoying new experiences.

Kerry

Assistant Practitioner

Family: Mother to a teenage daughter

Experience: Kerry joined the team in 2025 as a full-time support worker, bringing her warmth and a huge smile to every child in her care. 

Hobbies: Spending time with her family.

Why I Work in Childcare: After many years working in adult care, Kerry decided to follow her heart and step into the field she had always wished to pursue since leaving school, and she’s proving to be a natural at it! Kerry finds great joy in supporting children’s growth and happiness each day, knowing she’s making a positive difference in their early years.

Support Practitoner

Family: Mother of one older son

Experience: Tania joined SPLAT in 2024 and brings over 15 years of experience in childcare. She works on an adhoc basis and is always ready to sprinkle her magic across all rooms! With a huge array of knowledge and expertise, she’s the kind of person we always wish we could have more of.

Hobbies: Caring for her family and helping others.

Why I Work in Childcare: I love making a difference in people’s lives, both staff and children alike. Her motto is simple: “Anything I can do to make someone’s day a little easier is a job well done.”

Alison

Housekeeper

Alison is friendly, calm, and incredibly nurturing. A proud grandmother and mother of two, she pours love into everything she does, ensuring the nursery is always clean, safe, and welcoming for children, families, and staff alike.

Janet

Accounts Manager

Family: Mother of one very grown up man. 

Education & Qualifications: Safeguarding and GDPR.

Experience: With over 15 years experience in accounts management, Janet works off-site remotely, handling all things financial and funding-based.

Hobbies: Janet enjoys reading books, textiles, long walks, gardening, and baking.

 

Why I Work in Childcare: As part of Gemma P’s family, Janet loves being involved in this family-run business and supporting the team behind the scenes.

Gemma W

Nursery Chef

Experience:
Nearly three years of at SPLAT, combining my professional cheffing skills with a passion for creating healthy, exciting meals for everyone.

Education & Qualifications:

  • Level 4 Hospitality and Catering
  • Level 3 Creative Media Production
  • Level 3 Photography
  • Level 2 Web Design

Hobbies:
Running, Skateboarding, roller skates, biking, and motorbikes. Basically, if it has wheels, I’m on it, and,  yes even unicycles!

Why I Work in Childcare:
Working in childcare has been a refreshing and rewarding twist on my cheffing career. I love inspiring children to explore new flavours, understand the basics of nutrition, and develop a lifelong love of good food.
