Welcome to SPLAT, a remarkable Private, Independent Day Nursery and Forest School for children aged 0–5 years. Rooted in nature, built on love, and run with heart, SPLAT offers more than childcare: we provide a home-from-home where childhood is honoured, curiosity is championed, and every child is given the space to thrive 51 weeks a year. (Please note, we do not offer term-time only places.)
Proudly family-run, with over 23 years of experience, SPLAT is led by a Director who is actively involved in both the daily rhythm of nursery life and the long-term vision for our setting. This hands-on leadership ensures excellence across the board, for our children, our families, and our exceptional graduate-led team. As the only Forest School nursery in Central Bedfordshire, SPLAT offers a truly unique education. Here, children learn to assess and manage appropriate risks, developing resilience, problem-solving, and decision-making skills that will serve them well beyond their early years. At SPLAT, our Forest School ethos is not an add-on, it is woven into everything we do. We blend the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) with the transformative power of outdoor learning, creating an environment where children build confidence, independence, and a deep, lifelong connection with nature.
Child-led learning sits at the very heart of our approach. By following children’s interests and natural curiosity, we allow them to explore, investigate, and discover at their own pace. We cannot recommend SPLAT highly enough and only wish our son could have stayed another year. The staff have more than prepared him for school, though we feel it’s a shame schools don’t offer the same play-based, outdoor learning opportunities. With its incredible range of activities, forest school, Spanish, sign language, yoga, woodwork, nature walks, and more, SPLAT has given him the best start to his academic, social, and physical development, and he has truly thrived in their care. We are so grateful to the whole team.

SPLAT has provided both my boys with an exceptional foundation. Transition to reception was so much smoother than I could have ever anticipated and it was largely made so by his time in this setting. My youngest continues to enjoy and flourish here and his confidence and self advocacy has improved greatly since joining nearly a year ago. It would be my first recommendation to anyone looking for a nursery setting.
Since attending Splat, Luca has come out of his shell, they attended to his needs and communicated how these could also be included at home to ensure that there are consistencies between home and nursery. The nursery nurse are especially thoughtful e.g when Luca became unsettled they asked about anything going on at home or if there had been changes to his routine. Since going to the preschool room * speech has also developed, he enjoys his day there and tells us all how what he’s been doing! He especially likes the emotion monster they do in the morning!
Splat is a great nursery where children get a strong start in life. The staff are very supportive of each individual child's learning and the additional activities such as signing, Spanish, reptile visits and forest school are engaging additions for the children that go above and beyond (which are some of the reasons why the higher fees for this nursery can be justified in comparison to other settings). The food served to the children is also of a good variety, is well liked and of a high quality. Our child really enjoys going to Splat and we have seen good development so far which we hope can be maintained in the years ahead.

Honestly I can’t fault them! My child has learnt so much more than I could teach them during their time with Splat. They are always wanting to go back. I would send them everyday if I could afford it. I get updates all day and I don’t have a bad word to say. My child went to another nursery before this where they really didn’t treat them well however I’m so happy I found Splat to move them to

Both of my children have attended SPLAT and I would like to express my appreciation for the high standard of care provided by the nursery team. The staff are always welcoming, well-organised, and attentive to our child’s needs. The communication with us is excellent, and it is clear that the learning activities are thoughtfully planned. We are very pleased with our child’s progress who is currently in the baby room and loves coming to nursery.
Our daughter has had exceptional care and support. She has hip dyspepsia and the team cared for her after her surgery and in a brace incredibly well and with real compassion.

The team at SPLAT are brilliant - the time, energy and effort they put in to create a stimulating, fun, educational and safe environment for our child is really exceptional. Our child loves going to nursery, and we have full confidence in the team to care for him. From the start, SPLAT has been outstanding for our daughter. From communication to activities, nutrition to staff - it’s been welcoming, professional and warm. We know our daughter is extremely well looked after, supported and stimulated at exactly the right level. Other institutions, including mainstream schools, should look at splat for the standard they set.
One of the best things about SPLAT is the community they have created. The regular open days for past, present and future families are absolutely fantastic! It’s a lovely opportunity to come into the setting and experience it with our children. We have been treated to a Spanish lesson, identified plants and insects in the forest school, and enjoyed a warming fireside snack with the other parents. As a family, we have all made some lovely friends through this community and for that we are really grateful.
We cannot thank the team at SPLAT enough for all that they do. They are constantly striving to find other opportunities to continue to expand the offering and we couldn’t ask any more of them. The best decision we made was choosing to send our boys to SPLAT and, now that we have one child in primary school who really misses his time in the forest, we just wish that schools could offer the same level of outdoor play and learning as SPLAT.
We have been exceptionally pleased with SPLATS provision for over 5 years now (two children). The team remained positive and a vital support over the covid years and have continued to be committed to giving our children the most nurturing and healthy start to life that we could ask for. We continue to benefit from the forest school provision that they sometimes offer during school holidays because we value it so much. We feel very fortunate to have SPLAT alongside us during the early years.
Splat is a setting where children thrive. They are nurtured and their wellbeing is placed at the centre. The provision is excellent and the staff have been consistently warm and supportive. We wouldn't go anywhere else!
We could not be happier with the service the team provides. We know our daughter is safe, expertly cared for and valued as an individual. She is thriving in everyday life because of her engagement at SPLAT.
All 3 of my children have been cared for by splat, with my youngest currently in the baby room. The whole team are exceptional in how they interact with the children. So much so, that I struggle to get my child to leave!! She can’t wait to go in the morning and I think it feels like a home away from home. Over the years, the children’s key workers have not only cared for my children, but also us as a family, reaching out when I had a close family bereavement and regularly checking in with us. The forest school is brilliant and offers so much for the children. I can’t rate splat highly enough!
